LA Art Museum Sunday...FREE!!

Today, the 30th, is free admission to all LA museums.
This was not well publicized, so you heard it from me, the LAartGUY.
Opening today, for the first time to the public, is the Armand Hammer survey of contemporary artists. With the rain in town, it's worth noting that the Hammer is one of the few LA museums with indoor parking. Did I mention admission was FREE today?
That's right, the LA Contemporary art fair will cost you $18 to go through, The Hammer, LACMA, MOCA, the Geffen, all free. No excuses, go look at art; it won't hurt, I swear.
Take a look at what the Hammer is offering:

Opening night at Barker Hangar. LA Contemporary

The show looked good. The floor plan, and flow was better than Photo LA, but not as well presented as the LA Art show, at the convention center last week. This show lacked the commercial art, that was plentifully displayed at the convention center, but had quite a bit of experimental, or "hard to look at" art. This was evident at the David Kordansky gallery, that featured a chrome bear, on it's head, with a funnel, and bottle of wine protruding from it's anus. There was a human version (in blue) if that fit your decor, better.
My final verdict, is that the show was tasty, but not substantive.
On the social side, I spoke with Peter Loughery, owner of the L.A.M.A auction house,

he was with his lovely auctioneer, Viveca Paulin, and speaking with the wonderful interior designer, Lori Erenberg, with whom I've had the pleasure of working.

The third art fair this month? All right!

That's right, folks. This weekend it's the last of the January art shows.
Conveniently located at Barker Hangar, Santa Monica airport, this art fair might prove to be the best of current work out on the primary market. The previous shows had many secondary market artworks up for sale (works previously sold, and now being liquidated by collectors). This show is comprised of gallerists, not dealers, who work with the artist, to assist the viewer in understanding the direction/statement of work, the artist is presenting. Here's the web-site:

I, personally, am looking forward to attending the 1 image/1 minute screening at CAA in Century City. http://x-traonline.org/1IMAGE1MINUTE_2011.php.
Opening night for the fair is tonight, Thursday. Get on your clean duds, and I'll meet you at the bar!

And more of the art show..

I was fortunate to get tickets to the opening festivities. Hard to believe anyone shelled out $500 for a chance to nibble, nosh, and sip their way through the fair; but for a free ticket, it was a DEAL.
My girlfriend, Amy, and I got on our good threads, and perused the perusers. The best find, was the new, tea flavored Absolut Vodka. Damn that went down easily, and tasted great!
I saw a lot of foot traffic, which I hope led to some sales, The good stuff always seems to sell, the newest, latest, hottest, not so much. I'm sure to pass along what I hear, Sunday night.
Here's a pic of my installer, Paul Groner, taking care of some business.

The LA Art Show

http://www.laartshow.com/
January is the month to get your art on! The Photo LA show just closed Monday night, and we are already setting up the next art fair! This year I assisted Tim Yarger, of Beverly Hills, set up his art for display. I also collected, and installed the art for the David Lawrence Gallery, of West Hollywood. I roamed the fair, midway through installation, and was impressed by all the new work present. If you have the time this weekend, please come and see the work! Come downtown this weekend, it's not only fair-time, but Artwalk time as well!

Photo LA, Art LA

Just finished up with installing, and de-installing several booths at this years show at the Santa Monica Civic Center. I liked the integration of Contemporary art, at the former all-photo show. Here's shot of the new Kaycee Olson Gallery.
Onto the LA Art Show, in the morning

FACEBOOK SUICIDE....

I have decided to end my e-life @ F/B for a myriad of reasons.
First, and most prevalent of which, is to populate this fascinating blog.
Please stop by, again, to see what I've been up to!
