LAartGuy in NYC

The LAartGuy acknowledges the fact, that variety is the spice of life; and for this reason, has taken a job, from local artist, Tom Everhart, to drive his artwork cross-country, and install the 100 piece show, at The Animazing Gallery, in NYC.
Here's picture of Tom, in his studio (photo by Jennifer Everhart)
It's a bit of a home-coming for the LAartGuy, as he hails from this east coast State. I romanticize it so; that I must return (during a temperate time of year) to re-acquaint myself with the daily aggravation this magnificent metropolis throws in your face daily. Having grown up with Koch and Dinkins, I departed during Guliani's tenure, knowing very well how the personality of the Mayor, makes it's way down into the subways, and parks of the fairer borough.
I've been basking in the glow of Liberal California sunshine, for almost 2 decades worth of wonderfully difficult and trying times. I go back to NY, every year or so, just as a person in a dysfunctional relationship, returns to the same type mate they just left. But I don't check Craigslist for apartments anymore.

Spring Auction-time

It's that time of year again! Benefit auction season. This LACE auction is another one of the LAartGuy's charitable installs, annually. Sure, it's another bunch of people trying to get their hands, on your money, but hey. Tax rite-off, socializing, drinking and people watching hardly gets better, than at these events. Who knows, if the bar is well stocked with libations of taste, perhaps purse strings will loosen. There is definitely some GREAT artwork up for sale, from some very generous artists like Steve Roden, and Liat Yossifor.
I'd also like to talk about Shana Nys Dambrot's curated selection of artist's; specifically Marjan Vayghan. This young Persian beauty is working in unexplored mediums, merging performance with painting, photography, readymades, and lightboxes. I just installed a show of hers at the Los Angeles Art Association's gallery on LaCienega; she is an absolute pleasure to work with, with the warmest, positive energy, fascinating history, and artwork produced, that I've experienced with such a young artist. Explore her further by seeing, or even buying her work at these two concurrent shows. Here's a picture of the beauty to whet your appetite.
